TELEVISION IS STILL FREE! It's amazing how many people do not realize this. And broadcast HDTV isn't compressed like cable or satellite systems, so the picture is even better.

Retired NASA television engineer Dave Pollard is no longer crawling in attic spaces or on rooftops, but he has a tremendous knowledge of broadcast television that he has shared with us. Dave has tested many high-quality HDTV antennas, which you can purchase right on this website. Many can be installed indoors next to a window, or mounted in your attic space. We always recommend a professional licensed electrician for outside antenna installations.

NO MORE GUESSING. THESE ARE THE BEST ANTENNAS AND EQUIPMENT ON EARTH.

You will need to disable ad-blocking browser plug-ins to see our links to the best antennas and HDTV equipment.

Our technicians have tried all of these antennas and have had great results. They are all quality products. Will your experience be the same? It's difficult to tell. There are several variables involved in HDTV reception. First, how far you are from the broadcast towers (towers may not be located at the station offices) determines how much height and amplification you will need to receive a clean HD broadcast. Secondly, what is between you and the towers can make a difference. The higher you can get your antenna, the better. In flat areas, an attic may be high enough. Finally, the strength of the television station's broadcast matters too. Low-powered signals are difficult to receive. Always opt for as much power as you can afford.

Using an old television? If you're ditching your dish or cutting your cable, you may have to return their boxes. Older televisions may not be able to receive digital TV transmissions. No problem though, because there are solutions for that too, and with NO MONTHLY SURCHARGES! Buy your HDTV tuner box once, and use it forever for FREE. Here are some of the best digital receivers that will plug in to just about any television and some computer monitors too. Some of these boxes offer RECORDING too!

So how will you get your cable-only television shows? We've got that covered, too. Amazon Prime has thousands of your favorite TV shows and music for free for subscribers, plus you'll get free 2-day shipping and Amazon music too. SLING TV offers live, streaming cable channels including ESPN, USA, FX, HISTORY, CNN and many more depending on the package. Sling costs between $20-$40 a month - still cheaper than the $160 monthly bills many of our customers pay for hundreds of channels they don't watch. You will need a high-speed internet package to use these streaming services. Most newer LCD HDTVs have a "smart" interface built-in. If your TV isn't smart, or if you're using a computer monitor with an HDMI input, you can use one of the following devices to make your display smart.

What if my homeowner's association says NO ANTENNAS?

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

Sorry, Charlie, they can't do that. Regardless of what your bylaws say, no association can prevent you from installing a television antenna and receiving free HDTV broadcasts. As directed by Congress in Section 207 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the Federal Communications Commission adopted the Over-the-Air Reception Devices (“OTARD”) rule concerning governmental and nongovernmental restrictions on viewers' ability to receive video programming signals from direct broadcast satellites and television broadcast stations.

Why Amazon Prime?

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

I've been an Amazon Prime member for about three years. My wife and I found ourselves ordering textbooks for our daughters, water filters for our refrigerator, bottled water (because we're too lazy to carry it), cell phone cases, shoes, jewelry, and lord knows what else from Amazon, and the shipping alone makes the $99 Amazon Prime membership ($49-per-year program for students) well worth the investment. Prime members get free two-day express shipping on almost everything on the website, with some items now available overnight at no additional charge. The logistics are insane.

How far are the broadcast towers from my home?

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

The biggest problem we face with digital HD antenna installations is the distance from your local station's broadcast tower. The FCC measures signal strength from an outdoor antenna that's 30 feet above ground level, a situation and height that's typically not realistic for most Florida homeowners. The higher your antenna, the better your reception. The less obstruction between your antenna and the broadcast tower, the better your reception. And obviously the closer the broadcast tower, the better your chance of lassoing in that digital television signal.

Can I cancel my cable or U-verse and still keep my phone and/or internet?

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

ABSOLUTELY. These are entirely different services. You may lose a package discount, but your monthly bill should still end up lower than it was before.

If you're still under contract with AT&T or your cable television provider, you may have to pay something called an "early termination fee" if you cancel before your contract expires. In many cases, you'll save more on your monthly bills than the early termination fee costs, but look over your terms to see exactly how much you'll need to pay.

Can I use my old television for digital TV?

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

Yes you can, but you will need to connect a digital TV conversion box to the antenna input or RCA inputs on the back of your older television set. These boxes are fairly inexpensive and easy to install.

Simply hook your HDTV antenna into the RF-IN port of this device, and connect your older television to the RF-OUT port, or composite yellow, red, and white jacks depending on the television's inputs. Most of these conversion boxes ship with a wireless remote control too.

What is Sling TV?

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

ling TV is a internet television service owned by Blockbuster LLC and Sling International LLC subsidiaries of Dish Network. Unveiled on January 5, 2015 at the Consumer Electronics Show, the service aims to complement subscription video on demand services for cord cutters, offering a selection of major cable channels that can be streamed through smart TVs, digital media players and apps. When it launched in 2015, Sling TV was the first multichannel live TV service that streamed over the internet. Today it has some competition, but it's still the cheapest.

Cut your cables, and dump your dishes. HDTV broadcasts are still FREE.

February 17, 2017  Chuck Fresh

A long, long, LOOOONG time ago, in what seems like a far-away galaxy, people used to have antennae on their rooftops to receive three or four network television broadcasts. It was free, and once you got your antenna situated correctly, you could usually get all the local channels effortlessly. Many folks had a remote control antenna. I still remember the "ca-chunk" sound of the thing rotating on the rooftop. Then, UHF came about. That was a little different, requiring a much smaller antenna that we installed on the top of that huge console television set. In Philadelphia, we had four VHF channels, and then added another four UHF channels for a whopping 8 channels of free, broadcast television. We were in heaven.
