What is "Streaming" TV?

If you cut your cables, you can still get free and better local news by ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, which are supported by major news networks. And, popular cable-only channels including ESPN, The History Channel, AMC, CNN, HGTV, National Geographic and others are available through a "streaming" television service called Sling TV. Sling uses your high-speed internet connection to deliver those channels over an internet-powered stream. Still full HD, and in real time. You still get the channels you want, and save a whole lot of money!

Sling TV is a internet television service owned by Blockbuster LLC and Sling International LLC, subsidiaries of Dish Network. Yes, that Dish Network. Unveiled on January 5, 2015 at the Consumer Electronics Show, the service aims to complement subscription video on demand services for cord cutters, offering a selection of major cable channels that can be streamed through smart TVs, digital media players and apps. When it launched in 2015, Sling TV was the first multichannel live TV service that streamed over the internet. Today it has some competition, but it's still the cheapest. Dish saw cable cutting coming, and they smartly acted.

Sling TV is streaming TV package that starts at $20 per month for more than 30 channels, including ESPN, AMC, TNT, CNN, History, HGTV and the Disney Channel. You can pay up to $40 a month and receive more channels.

Although Sling TV is a subsidiary of Dish Network, the satellite provider, it's operated as an entirely separate service. You do not need a Dish subscription or a satellite dish to get Sling TV -- all you need is a high-speed internet connection. You will need a smart TV that offers the Sling TV app, or Amazon's Fire Stick or Roku connected to your HDTV both offer Sling TV as an application.

You can also watch Sling TV on your phone, tablet or computer, either at home or away. There are no contracts and you can cancel or resume service anytime, with no penalties. Visit Sling's website at https://www.sling.com/
